SOPRANOS IN 25

HBO

One of the most-watched shows in television history turning 25 was a big deal. Our mission: inspire a fanbase to stream a show they’ve already watched a million times, and reach a whole new generation of untapped fandom ready to be initiated.

I had the idea to cut all 86 episodes down to bite-sized 25sec videos and post them all to TikTok. I pitched the idea to HBO, got them on board, and the team went to work.

There are too many episodes to add below, so I’ll include my favorites. Head over to the full account to rewatch the entire show in 25sec micro-eps.

So was it successful? The Guardian thinks so.

“What is the purpose of taking one of the most sophisticated examples of serialised storytelling we have ever been shown, and boiling it down so that 94% of it never gets seen? Who is it for? What a genuinely bizarre social media gimmick this is.

Or is it? Because I have to admit that if sifting through the existing Sopranos TikToks and speculating about TikToks still to come has made me want to do anything, it’s to go back and start watching every episode in full all over again. So who is this for? I have a horrible feeling that it’s for me.”

And Mashable seems to agree.

…with tens of thousands of views for each Sopranos video, the official account is probably achieving what it set out to — putting The Sopranos in front of a new, younger audience who may not have heard of it before.
